Cristina takes us to Images Management in NYC where Mary Ellen tells us more about Images Model Management and what they look for in representing new models.

Images has been around since 1981. We are a fashion print and commercial print agency. We also have a Plus size division. We represent men and women. Things we look in a model - great skin, bright eyes, great hair, interesting looks...we look for all ethnicities. We look for something special in each model, that is what makes a model standout. Personality and how the model represents themselves is also important to complete the full package.

How do become an Images model? We have an open call every Wednesday from 3-4pm. For those aspiring models outside of NYC, we do accept submissions, by email or mail.

Cristina: So today we’re headed down to Images and we are going to get some great information all about their agency. This is the kind of day you want to take a cab to all your castings.

Cristina: Hi Mary Ellen.

Mary Ellen: Hi Cristina, how are you?

Cristina: So tell me a little bit about your agency.

Mary Ellen: Well, Images has been around since 1981. We are a fashion print agency. We have a commercial print division. We also have a plus division which we just started….

Cristina: Do you also represent men?

Mary Ellen: We do represent men. We have a division called MAXX Men. They are our division of male models ….

Cristina: Do you have any requirements for women that want to be models?

Mary Ellen: Yes, we look for women that are 15 to 25, 5’9’’ and up, interesting looks, we always look for something special in each model.

Cristina: Exactly.

Mary Ellen: Obviously the requirements are they have great skin, bright eyes, great hair but we also look for something special in each model because that is what makes them stand out. Besides just the way they look also, their personality, how well they represent themselves. That’s also part of the package which is very important to us. This is our main board which would be our fashion print models, catalogue, and runway. We have very good strong runway division and this encompasses most of the models that work in that area.

Cristina: So these are really the 5’9’’ and above. This is what you are talking about. Okay.

Mary Ellen: Certainly on this board you will not find anyone less than 5’9’’.

Cristina: Okay, this is the commercial print board.

Mary Ellen: Commercial print board.

Cristina: No height requirement here.

Mary Ellen: Right. This is of course MAXX Men our men’s division and we look for men as I said 6 feet and up.

Cristina: Do you have men in your commercial print as well?

Mary Ellen: Certainly, yes. Some of the men that are on this board can work both boards. Because they have a more commercial type of look about them. So they can certainly fluctuate from the main boards to a commercial print.

Cristina: And when somebody wants to be an Images model, what do they have to do?

Mary Ellen: We have an open call every Wednesday, 3 to 4.

Cristina: And what about the model that doesn’t live in New York.

Mary Ellen: Well, they can do submissions. They can submit online. They can send in pictures, whatever you know their preference is and certainly if it is someone we are interested in, we will make arrangement to see them at their convenience.

Cristina: As far as sending you a picture, do they have to be professional or can it be a snapshot?

Mary Ellen: I mean, it’s hard to say. If they have that very interesting look that one looks for, it can be a snapshot at times you can see right away that they have something special and you make the exception and it doesn’t necessarily have to be a full portfolio.

Cristina: Great. Well, thank you so much.

Mary Ellen: Oh, very, very welcome. It was a pleasure having you here.
