Posing for the Camera
Before your first modeling job or your test shooting- you need to learn how to pose in front of the camera. It is not as easy as some think...
To start- you should browse through some catalogs and magazines to find about ten different poses. Put on some music and get in front of a full length mirror and mimic the poses you found. Alternate your facial expressions. Then mix and match facial expressions with the different poses you found. Before long you should have at least 10-20 poses memorized so you can fall back on them during your first shooting.
You do not need any fancy classes just practice, practice, practice!
You do not want to get on set at a job and not know what you are doing!
Video Transcription
What every model needs to know is how to pose, and everybody asks me, “How do you learn how to do this? How do you get comfortable doing it?” And, this is it. You go to a mirror in your house; you put on some nice music, some music that gets you relaxed, and then you basically get in front of the mirror and start moving. Find some models in the magazines and copy their poses. What I did when I started out modeling is I memorized about 10 different poses and then had those poses in the back of my head. I got in front of the mirror and then tried the different poses to see which ones were the most flattering for me and worked with the clothes I had on. After those poses I would see what different things I could do with the clothes like, putting my hands in my pockets. Practice using different expressions; smile and do some that more serious and some that are a little crazy. Do not be afraid to break out and throw your arms in the air and just have fun with it. If you feel embarrassed doing this, which a lot of people do, take an improvisational acting class and just learn to let go and do not worry about looking stupid, do not worry about looking silly. So just get in front of the mirror and work it. This is Cristina DeHart on exploremodeling.com.

I like to use my camera and either take photos of poses(which can take a while from running back and forth turning on the "10 sec" timmer) or take a video of my poses and hold them for a few seconds in clothes and makeup I'm comfortable in and some music on (And magazines!)
Hope this helps to those that are reading this!
