Submitting Your Photos to Agencies
There are two ways to submit your photos to an agency.
- By Mail
- By E-Mail
I strongly recommend when trying to get representation with any agency that you do both. Agencies receive hundreds if not thousands of submissions per week. In order to cover all bases that they get your submission sending both ways can be very helpful. Keep in mind also that many agencies still do not accept online submissions so if you send it by e-mail only it may just get deleted.
You can send either...
- Digital Photos
- Professional Photos
- Both
If you do not have professional photos and you are just starting out- you do not need them! You can simply get your parents or a friend to take some photos with a digital camera.
If you do have professional photos, if they are not amazing- you are better off just sending digitals photos. If you are a professional model with tear sheets and great photos you can send a composite card. You may also want to consider sending your own digitals so the agency can see what you look like in person.
When taking your digitals- you can not go wrong with jeans and a white tank top- whether you are male or female. For girls, wear little or no make-up and keep hair simple. No fancy poses- keep it natural...

Cristina: You are going to submit to the modeling agencies your online portfolio. You can submit to them online but you can also submit to them by mail because there are two ways to contact an agency, by e-mail and by mail. And I highly recommend doing both.
Don’t just submit by e-mail, don’t just submit by mail. You want to hear them from both.
I was just at a modeling agency and they told me they get about 50 model submissions a week, some get 50 a day. So if they are very busy and they don’t have time to look through every one, a lot of time they go in the garbage or for an e-mail, what does everybody do? Delete, delete, delete. So what you are left thinking is “I’ve submitted to this modeling agency and nobody called me and nobody e-mailed me so they don’t like me.” Well, that’s not the case. Someone probably never even saw you, so until someone has submitted to an agency several times. I don’t believe that they don’t like you. So you need to keep submitting.
You can submit to each agency once a month which is what I recommend. I don’t recommend doing it more than that. Once a month is enough, so if you choose an area like Richmond, you can choose five different agencies, go ahead and submit to them by mail and by e-mail and wait. But then also do that with Baltimore and like I said, wherever you are willing to go, if you want to go as far as New York. Some New York agencies take girls for the entire summer or for two weeks or so to try them out. Again you have to pay your expenses but if you want to find an opportunity like that, you would log in, put your area, and then it’s going to bring all the modeling agencies up and you can just by clicking a button submit all your photos to the agencies in New York by e-mail and mail and again wait. And the more agencies you submit your photos to you have an increased chance of getting representation.
I submit mailings all the time and I just sent one.
